Want more tips on how to save electricity and cut down on your energy costs? Here are a few simple things you can do at home.
- Turn off energy guzzlers
Electronic gadgets that are left plugged in can drain away steadily at your electricity consumption. If you aren’t using your laptop, computer, TV, or other electronic equipment, stop wasting energy by leaving them plugged in. If you constantly forget to unplug your gadgets, you may want to try a power strip that can be turned off. These are like extension cords with an on and off switch.
- Keep your air conditioner well-maintained
Air conditioners are one of the highest electricity consuming appliance we have at home. And its energy consumption increases the more that dirt and dust and other pollutants have clogged the filters and slowed down the motor. Of course, you may consider just opening the windows and using fans instead of turning on your air conditioner. And when they aren’t being used, have your air conditioner cleaned and serviced to keep it running at peak efficiency.

- Invest in motion sensors
Another energy vampire we have in our homes are the lights we leave on in rooms even when there is nobody there. Or leaving the porch and other outdoor lights on, which we may do for safety and security purposes. The catch is that all those lights turned on in our homes steadily consume electricity.
Try investing in a motion sensor. Motion sensors detect movement, and lights turn on and off automatically in response to movement. So in a way, the lights are turned on only when there is somebody there actually using the lights (or when there is cause for concern should somebody be lurking outside your home). Another good thing about it is that you won’t have to worry that you forgot to turn the lights off!…
